Why WordPress Is The Only Blogging Platform I’d Recommend
I’ll freely admit this is an oft discussed topic, but there are valid reasons why many encourage the use of WordPress as the blogging platform that everyone with any ambition, should use. If you aren’t using WordPress, then I really encourage you to read this.
When someone desires to start a blog, the options that usually confront them are;
Wordpress, Blogger, Live Journal, and Typepad.
I’ll confess that I know very little about Live Journal and Typepad; but like Blogger, I am aware of some of their limitations.
The Differences
Primarily, what sets WordPress apart from the others, is the ability to use their software on your own host, as well as a free hosted option. Because of this, it gives the user, much more advanced features and the ability to fully customize your blog.
Because Blogger, Live Journal and Typepad store your blog in their own servers, you have limited access to what you can change, add, and remove. On top of that, the blog is never really yours either! [Read more →]

5 Steps To Get Indexed By Google Within 48 Hours
Within two days of launching this blog, the homepage was indexed by Google, and the monster search engine began to find my articles. Now, it could have been sooner, but I didn’t check beforehand, so it was at most 48 hours.
Why Is This Significant?
Well, you only have to browse webmaster forums for a few minutes before you find people complaining, because it’s been six weeks since their site launched, and Google still haven’t found them.
Since I’ve started blogging, I’ve launched four different sites, each of them dealing with completely different topics, and each indexed by Google within 4-5 days.
So how come some sites takes weeks, and mine have taken a few days? Well, there are certain ways to help Google not only find your site, but to show them that your site is worthwhile. Here are five steps to get your site indexed by Google as fast as possible. [Read more →]

Google - The Ultimate Big Brother!
I’m sitting here in shock. So much so, that I barely even know what to write, even though my mind is full of material.
I’ve just been following the blue link road, and come across something which I find disturbing (to say the least). It’s Google’s recent addition to their Google Maps, called “Street View“. Had it been the beginning of April, I might have thought it was another elaborate prank, but this is for real.
What Is It?
Put simply, all you American ‘city-slickers’ out there better watch your back, as the ultimate “Big Brother is watching you” is happening right now on your doorstep. People employed by Google in some way or another, are driving around cities, taking candid photographs of the streets, including public and private property, vehicals, pedestrians, and all their actions; and all without any warning whatsoever. Online Advice Courtesy Of Oprah Winfrey
I don’t consider myself to be one of Oprah’s fans among the millions, but a few months ago while eating my lunch, I watched her show as she interviewed Will Smith concerning his recent movie, “The Pursuit of Happyness”. Now, I’m far from being a ‘movie buff’, but after watching the show, which had nothing but praise for the movie, I couldn’t help but think, “I must see that movie”.
Sure enough, about a month ago my wife and I rented the movie, but when it ended I felt disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, it was great, but it had been somewhat spoiled by Oprah, and it taught me a vital lesson which can be turned into a very apt piece of online advice. [Read more →]

Random Header Images
One of the first things I wanted to do with this blog when I returned from our short break, was to implement random header images, so that I could display some of my photographs for you to enjoy. I’m far from an expert photographer, but ever since I bought my first digital camera two years ago (a Panasonic FZ5), my interest in taking photographs has increased. Finally, near the end of last year, I concluded it was time to move on to a fully manual D-SLR. After many questions, reading reviews, and checking prices, I managed to grab myself a Canon 350d for very good price.
The transition from working on automatic modes, to attempts at manually adjusting shutter speed and aperture, isn’t without its hiccups, but it’s well worth it. Maybe in a few years I’ll set up my own ‘photoblog’, but right now I don’t think my work is anywhere near good enough to be displayed in such a manner, and I don’t have any desire to turn iFFECT.NET into a photoblog. This blog is all about online advice, and I plan to keep it that way. [Read more →]
