Web 2.0 Stripe Generator - Gorgeous Simplicity!
With the online hype surrounding everything “Web 2.0″, there has come a vivid change in web design. As much as some have taken efforts to avoid the typical web 2.0 look, there is a growing trend of 3d images, smooth contours, shiny buttons, and…stripes!
Now don’t ask me how the whole stripe idea has come about, but it has. There are some beautiful examples, such as Scott Wills, The Escape, and Colour Mod. In fact, it has even stretched into free WordPress themes, Wolfgang Bartelme’s Dark Theme for WordPress probably being the most beautiful of all.
Care For Some Stripes?
So after looking at those gorgeous examples, now you want to add some stripes to your design, I just know it! Problem is, you’re not sure how. You’d love to change the header on your blog to a shiny, striped, colourful header, but your Photoshop skills are severely limited, and you haven’t the patience to learn.
Well, thanks to a stroke of genius (it is to me anyway) from Stripe Generator, you can now have your own set of stripes with a few clicks of your mouse. Everything is editable; stripe size, spacing, colours, drop shadows, and four stripe angles. Once your satisfied with your selections (which are viewable in a preview screen), you can download the .png file.
Edit your css adding this line to the element you want to stripe:
background-image: url(”path-to-stripe.png”);
If you want to only repeat horizontally your tile (as in the case of tiles with gradient), you must add this line too:
background-repeat: repeat-x;
As much as I think the Stripe Generator is excellent, it is limited in many ways too, and most of what you design could possibly need a tweak or two with Photoshop or GIMP, such as opacity. However, it could be just the thing to liven up your site design.
